The First Few Months of Parenthood
If you are already vibrating at the thought of what your first few months of parenthood could be, you clearly are not ready. However, if you are entering the Mom and Dad Zone with open eyes, anticipation and excitement…you may be disappointed. Actually, if that is the way you feel about becoming parents – either for the first time or once again – then you will surely survive the first few months. But, just in case, here are a few tips to help you out.

1 – Moms, Get Dad To Learn How To Bottle Feed The Baby

This is an extremely valuable tip. It has a bit to do with getting mom out of nursing clothes and baby care chores although it serves a much greater purpose than that. If you can convince Dad to take on this seemingly light duty job, it’ll do two things. 1) It will give him a lot of time to share and bond with your child and 2) It gives you a break from always being connected to your child. Look at this as a way for you to escape for awhile to see the girls, do some shopping or get some sleep.

2 – Never Under Estimate The Swaddling Benefits of A Bodysuit

Your baby is accustomed to the warmth of the womb it spent the last nine months as a resident. To closely imitate this very same atmosphere you can bundle up baby. You’ll be surprised to see how that alone can serve to calm and comfort your infant – even if he or she is a tad on the cranky side. By using the swaddling trick it reduces the cranky side of both Mom and Dad.

3 – Get Organised Amid The Chaos of Disorganisation

Sure, your infant has no clue what day it is or what is going on in the rest of the house but if you start to build a routine, he or she will follow suit. It can be as simple as picking up your infant when wearing nursing clothes or taking care of any other kind of baby care activity. If you turn the lights down at 2 in the afternoon, keep that scheduled. Your infant will also help put you on a schedule when it comes to sleeping and eating patterns. If you can put all of this into an organised pattern, everyone wins.

4 - Guys At The Drinking Hole Can Wait

As tempting as it may be to run away and find other distractions to keep your sanity during the first few months of parenthood – don’t. You must avoid this at all costs simply because your goal is to become a good parent, not a part-time parent. Save that for when Junior is in high school and doesn’t want to be seen with you by his friends. Now is the time to step up and take control of the foundation you intend to put in place as a family.
